Yale Library branch to Temporarily Close for Building Maintenance
Attention Yale Library patrons.   As per instructions from the city of Yale, the Yale Library branch of the St. Clair County Library System will be closed starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 18th until Monday, May 15th for building maintenance and repairs.  Patron computers will not be available on Tuesday, April 18th. Yale patrons may pick up their requests at the Capac Library (810- 395-7000) during this time.  Material may continue to be dropped off in the branch drop box. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The Way I See It - an evening with Temple Grandin - SOLD OUT

As part of our 100th anniversary year celebration, the St. Clair County Library System is proud to present author, professor, and world-renowned autism spokesperson Temple Grandin at the East China Performing Arts Center at 7 pm on Wednesday, May 3rd.  Ms. Grandin will be doing a presentation, question-and-answer session, and book signing. Copies of her books will be available to purchase courtesy of Barnes and Noble.  Admission Free.   Doors open at 6 pm. Temple Grandin
 is a professor of animal science at Colorado State University and consultant to the livestock industry on animal behavior. She is widely celebrated as one of the first individuals on the autism spectrum to publicly share insights from her personal experience of autism. 
Ms. Grandin has appeared on television shows such as 20/20, 48 Hours, CNN Larry King Live, PrimeTime Live, 60 Minutes, the Today Show, and many shows in other countries. She has been featured in People Magazine, the New York Times, Forbes, U.S. News and World Report, Time Magazine, the New York Times book review, and Discover magazine.

In 2010, Time Magazine named her one of the Time 100,  an annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world, she was named in the "Heroes" category. Interviews with Dr. Grandin have been broadcast on National Public Radio and she has a 2010 TED Lecture titled "The World Needs ALL Kinds of Minds." She has also authored over 400 articles in both scientific journals and livestock periodicals on animal handling, welfare, and facility design. She is the author of "Thinking in Pictures", "Livestock Handling and Transport," "Genetics and the Behavior of Domestic Animals," and "Humane Livestock Handling." Her books "Animals in Translation" and "Animals Make Us Human" were both on the New York Times best seller list. "Animals Make Us Human" was also on the Canadian best seller list.

Her life story has also been made into an HBO movie titled "Temple Grandin, starring Claire Danes," which won seven Emmy awards and a Golden Globe. The movie shows her life as a teenager and how she started her career. In 2016 she received the Meritorious award from the OIE World Organization for Animal Health in Paris, France for her work on developing animal welfare guidelines. That same year she was also inducted into The American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
