Napoleon and America: Although He Was Never Here

Event Type: General
Date: 10/11/2017
Time: 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Description:   Harness your horses and get ready for a speedy carriage ride through America, as viewed through the eyes of Napoleon from 1803 until 1817 (although Napoleon was never here).
Consider the course of history from the Louisiana Purchase, to the War of 1812 (that Napoleon contrived), to his exile that he first envisaged in America. Learn of the legacy he left in our very midst, including an array of place names. Even Michigan was not untouched.
Historian Dr. Susan P. Conner will take you on that journey through words, pictures, and commentary. She is professor of history emerita and retired provost of Albion College, Albion, Michigan and the author of The Age of Napoleon (Greenwood, 2004) as well as numerous other publications.
